Intimidation, Blackmail and Warnings!
What exactly is even happening in our colleges?
Recently, members of Progressive Artists' League distributed Pamphlets outside College of Art, Delhi about the government propaganda being imposed on the students who are being forced to create artworks on the Kumbh Mela praising the governments' initiative. Forget about painting the reality - communalisation of the festivals, dividing people and ignoring the basic arrangements for common people resulting in stampede and death- they were to paint only Mr.Modi's communalization with a halo on his head.
What happened after the distribution of these pamphlets proves that college administration complies with the government's fascist propaganda, and its role as an arm of the fascist state.
The college authorities engage in different types of tactics to divide, intimidate and crush the students' unity, from the moment they step into the college. The Principal was apparently so disturbed by an act as simple as the distribution of pamphlets that he had to go to different departments and issue a warning to the students to not to be linked with this group. He went on to threaten the students with suspension if they were found to be associated with "this group", that is Progressive Artists' League, and if anyone was found to be a participant in our WhatsApp group or in any of our activities, strict actions will be taken by the administration. Even today, the cowardly principal upon finding out that we have organised a talk on the issue, asked his police buddies to check up on us and prevent us from talking and spreading the message to other students.
The students of the College are living under such prison like situations that they cannot even visit any other classes/departments; students who are found fraternising with "outsiders" (referring to the students from other departments), are to be punished with deduction in their grades.
This is the condition of one of the premier art colleges in our country! But it is neither unique nor isolated. The fascists that reign triumphant today are launching more thorough attacks on our basic democratic rights everyday and are dismantling and infiltrating institution after institution and university after university. However, they cannot be allowed to ride roughshod over our democratic rights in this manner. All students, artists and citizens who understand this must give their all today to come forward and struggle against this onslaught.
